The relationship with the Prince's Trust is developing well with some interesting and varied propositions of how we can support each other, with many peoply fulfilling their CR objectives by signing up to volunteer workshops.
In 2008 12 very brave staff members took part in the Capgemini Wild UK Challenge over 3 days and raised £9,600, money that went towards the Prince's Trust's twelve week personal development programme for young people. Other members of staff took part in the Millionmakers project as part of 50 teams across the UK competing to raise the most money to enable the Trust to support more young people and help themrealise their ambitions.
From needing a business entrepreneur to set up a smoothie shop in one of our LIFT projects, to pushing our supply chain to recruit local people from the Get into Construction programme, we are pushing the boundaries in the way we work together to both support the great efforts of the Trust, as well as cementing our group CR objectives.
John Laing are patrons of The Construction and Business Services Leadership Group (CBSLG). The Group aims to raise the profile of construction as a potential career, whilst equipping young people with the skills they need to secure an apprenticeship and employment by using theBuilding Better Lives programme. The initial project is called "Get into Construction" and aims to help London's unemployed young people develop the skills they need to work in the construction industry in the run up to the 2012 Olympic Games.
As patrons of the CBSLG and consequently the Get into Construction Scheme, John Laing looks to consistently engage its employees with the work of the Trust. In recognition of this the Prince's Trust has made an Award for our vital work for the CBSLG during 2008. This award was given partly in recognition of the many ways John Laing employees get involved with the activities of the Prince's Trust.
