The centre was opened on 15th July 2009 by the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Alison Forth. The opening was attended by John Laing directors Richard Groome and Michael Hamilton.

The John Laing Charitable Trust has committed to donate £45,000 to help re-establish this centre as a self financing community asset.
