Healthcare

Providing a high quality environment that is available 24 hours a day is of paramount importance in our hospitals and clinics. Both patients and clinical staff need total confidence in the facilities and services that support them.

We have a proven track record in the successful delivery of hospital schemes through PPPs, and a team and supply chain recognised for its experience and understanding of public sector healthcare delivery. We ensure a dependable, high quality working and healing environment is maintained throughout the concession period and provide a full range of non-clinical support services, allowing clients to concentrate on delivery of first class patient care.

We know how important it is for healthcare clients to procure therapeutic buildings that offer good long-term value for money, whether they represent a large teaching hospital or community care provider working from local clinics. Everything from sustainability to security and disabled access is considered at the design stage and we ensure that our projects are built to last.

In Newcastle we are delivering a large and complex redevelopment scheme to provide more modern and efficient care on a city centre site, while NHS Forth Valley are working with us to develop the largest PFI hospital in Scotland with a high degree of automation in the way support services are provided.

We are also working with the Tees, Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Trust to provide and maintain a new hospital which provides a therapeutic environment to support a wide range of mental health and learning disability services in light, airy facilities that make use of gardens and outdoor areas to give patients shared activity spaces similar to those they would find in the community.

At the other end of the scale, local communities in Derbyshire, Leicester, Nottingham, Manchester and the West Midlands are benefiting from the one-stop primary healthcare and community care facilities that we delivered through PrimaryPlus, our NHS LIFT joint-venture, along with our facilities management services. John Laing sold PrimaryPlusto a consortium of Equitix and Community Solutions in October 2011.

With over 40 health centres and related services either in operation or construction, we are a leading developer in this market and harness our experience to the benefit of all our projects.

And our reputation for success in the UK is now attracting interest from healthcare professionals in central Europe, Australia and Canada where we have established ourselves as a major player in P3 markets for hospital projects including the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre, the Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre, the Kelowna & Vernon Hospitals and the Redevelopment of the Royal Hopsital in Adelaide.

Teamwork and understanding have enabled us to devise some of the most innovative solutions and highest quality healthcare buildings in the PPP sector. The Freeman Hospital in Newcastle won the 2008 Building Better Healthcare award for the best hospital design and the Roseberry Park hospital was highly commended in the Mental Health category the following year. And our projects won LIFT awards in 2008 and 2009 for innovation, patient experience, value for money and design quality.
