At John Laing, we have a solid tradition as a global player. Although our roots are firmly established in the UK,we havea long history and a strong future overseas.
Over our long and illustrious history we have been involved in projects in Kenya, southern Africa, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Canada, the Falkland Islands and, of course, in mainland Europe, to name but a few. Employees, past and present, have many stories to tell of their time far away from home, whether it is constructing houses in, what is now, Zambia, being caught up in and imprisoned during the Suez Crisis, or involved in the huge logistical challenges of building a new airport in the post-1982 Falkland Islands.
This history is being built upon aswe become an increasingly international player. In Europe we areusing our experience to develop and deliver road projects in Norway, Finland, Poland, Hungary and Germany as well as actively bidding for new projects throughout the continent. We wereinvolved in the provision of the ground-breaking Oresund tunnel, which together with the bridge of the same name, links Denmark and Sweden. In Canada, our portfolio includes three hospitals andwe arebidding for further projects both in Canada and the US.
We have established offices in Canada and Hollandto allow us to engage more strongly in those markets and in 2008, opened further offices in India and Singapore, where we are building partnerships with strong local players.
