John Laing, together with its partner Sodexo Investments Ltd, is lead developer to build two new hospitals in North Staffordshire. The project entails the building of a new acute hospital onthe University of North Staffordshire's City General site and a new community hospital for North Stoke Primary Care Trust on the Haywood Sites.
Laing O'Rourke started construction on the £304 million project in April 2007 and early works have now been completed. It is expected that the 90,000 sq metre City General Hospital will be completed by 2012. The project is a phased development and the first services available to the community have been acute clinical facilities.
The North Stoke Hospital, which is approximately 11,000 sq metres, was completed in 2009. Hard and soft facilities management are carried out at both hospitals by Sodexo Ltd. The concession will run for 30 years.
