North East Fire and Rescue Authority (NEFRA)

John Laing and Shepherd Construction are working together to deliver the North East Fire and Rescue Authorities (NEFRA) collaborative PFI project.

The project is for the design, construction, finance and operation of five community fire stations in the North East of England for the Tyne and Wear, Durham and Darlington and Northumberland Fire and Rescue Authorities, as well as a headquarters based in West Hartford.

Post Completion works were completed on 21 January 2011and all 5 sites are nowfully operational.John Laing Integrated Services(JLIS)is providing thefacilities managementservices over the course of the25 year contract term.

This project has dramatically improved facilities for the fire and rescue service in the North East, which is facing diverse and rapidly changing challenges - from the management of major incidents and ensuring a safer community to the impacts of climate change.

Thetotal funding requirementis £30m. John Laing has provided 80% of the equity and Shepherd Constructionhas provided the remaining 20% as well as having built the new fire stations.
