The project is part of an initiative by the London Boroughs of Newham and Enfield to jointly procure PFI schools. It involvesthe design, build, finance and operation of four new schools, one in Newham and three in Enfield.
The project was the first of its kind to be bid with another authoritiesd includesfacilities for pupils with physical, sensory, severe and multiple learning difficulties.
The consortium bid for the scheme as a single project and the public sector benefitted from the economies of scale this approach offered. The consortium's experience of working together andclosing and delivering PFI projects, offered a major advantage to the project, as the contracts were signed just 25 weeks after selection as preferred bidder.
The concession will run for 27 years from financial close, ending on 31st August 2029. Following construction completion in August 2005, the Newham School project isapproaching itsseventh year of operation, providing accommodation to over 1400 secondary pupils each year.
John Laing and John Laing Integrated Services are proud to provide operational services to the school and are looking forward to continue to provide maintenance, cleaning, catering, and security and waste management for the benefit of its students and the local community for the foreseeable future.
