Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre, British Columbia, Canada

1 February 2007 saw the completion of John Laing's acquisition of Access Health Abbotsford (AHA), the company selected to design, build, finance and maintain the new C$355 million Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre.

AHA was established to deliver cost savings and innovation in design, construction and property management of the two new healthcare facilities. AHA was recognized for its innovation in 2005 when the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre project was named the North American PPP Deal of the Year by Project Finance magazine.

The transfer of ownership to John Laing consolidated responsibility for the completion of construction and the long-term facilities management of this project into the hands of John Laing with its in-depth expertise in the project management of construction and facilities and property management in public private partnership (P3) projects.

The Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre is owned by the Fraser Health Authority and the Provincial Health Services Authority/BC Cancer Agency, which provide all clinical services.

The project, which is now fully operational is provided with non-clinical services by AHA, such as foodservices, laundry, security, parking, housekeeping and maintenance. The AHA concession is for 30 years.

This is one of John Laing's first two investments in the Canadian market.
