John Laing, through its division, John Laing Projects and Developments, has been named preferred bidder to provide two new state-of-the-art college buildings at Hastings and Rother. At the Stations Plaza site in Hastings, a 21st century centre of vocational and academic learning will be created, as well as 103 residential apartments and extensive underground parking. The site also offers a potential development opportunity with the Strategic Health Authority to create a new primary care centre.

At Ore Valley a technology centre, incorporating engineering and construction workshops, will offer students and businesses access to a range of best in class facilities.

In addition, John Laing is providing funding towards the construction of the new facilities by purchasing the college’s three existing sites which it will develop once the new facilities are complete.

For the £65 million project, John Laing has entered into a joint-venture with house builder, Gladedale to develop the residential sites and will enter into a Construction Contract with Laing O’Rourke for the construction of the new college facilities.

Financial close for the Public Private Partnership transaction, which is seen as a catalyst for the regeneration of Hastings town centre, was achieved in November 2007 and students will be able to use the new college facilities for the first time in September 2009.
