Community

John Laing prides itself on helping to create and being part of successful communities. It does this most visibly by improving the quality of the built environment but it also helps to make a real contribution to the success of the communities in which it is involved by both the company and its staff making significant contributions - not only from a financial perspective but from social and environmental ones also. John Laing encourages staff to actively participate in the establishment of projects and the sharing of knowledge and experience.

Once the physical infrastructure is improved the quality of the lives of those living in the community is improved and aspirations are increased.  Experience has shown that housing and other social infrastructure developments thrive best when as much care is given to the environment as to the condition of the buildings themselves. In these successful communities people’s aspirations are raised; they expect more from themselves and those around them and so they feed more back in. A virtuous circle is created.

But the building of the physical environment is only part of the story. John Laing and its staff have an embedded culture of remaining part of the community long after the construction is over. Because many of the contracts span over a 25 or even 30 year period, the company and its staff have a vested interest in making sure the community remains successful, as well as empowering local people and groups to participate in the development and delivery of sustainable solutions. Where ever there is a John Laing community you will find staff involved.
